Creativity and New Media

Image
A way that I am able to display creativity through the use of new media, is through the usage and creation of a Bitmoji. This is a personalized character that is created by the user, typically made to look like oneself. It allows to personalize physical features of the character such as hairstyle, face shape, eye color, etc, as well as clothing, allowing for creativity. The bitmoji is used across a variety of media and different apps on your phone. It is a creative way to express oneself and communicate with others. It has hundreds of stickers that can be used to express how one feels or one's mood without having to explain it. For example, when texting someone, instead of sending a simple text, I can choose to send a "sticker" of my bitmoji that already has a message on it as demonstrated below with my personal Bitmoji:                                 .

HW Creativity

New media has allowed for the creation of new forms of art. Music is an industry that has changed due to new media, creating new genres. The New Yorker article, “The New Math of Mashups,” mentions the creation of mashups, in which songs are the vocal from one song, laid over the music from another. Digital software is used to create these mashups, the creation of mashups would not have been possible without the use of new media. Anyone can create new music today in the comfort of their own home and share what they have created through new media such as Youtube. There are so many things that can be created from one's imagination through the use of new media. New media technology allows to demonstrate and bring to life what we visualize in our minds. New media tools allows to foster creativity because when there are many different tools at one's disposal, people have the ability to produce anything and even be innovators. Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

Virtual worlds can be used in many different ways and forms in our present society. Although virtual worlds and virtual reality may seem very futuristic, there have been many technological developments and advocates that have been contributing to the progression of its capabilities throughout the years. One way that virtual worlds may be used to impact our society in a beneficial way is by creating scenarios for professional such as doctors and pilots to be able to practice simulations of real world events and increase their level of skill and competency in those areas. I believe this is a pro for society because without virtual world training such as this would be nearly impossible. Another pro of virtual worlds would be the bridge it creates between community and creativity. Virtual worlds are a platform that allow creative individuals to interact with one another and share / learn from common experiences. A negative side of virtual worlds is a very common one int erpreted by society

Blog About Twitter

A Twitter discussion is very unique and houses a range of variations in which communications can be carried out. Twitter can be used for day-to-day social interactions between friends and family members, to nation-wide addresses from one's president to all of the country's citizens. The scale in which Twitter can be used is one unique aspect that differentiates this platform from those such as BlackBoard. Another unique feature of Twitter is the limit on the amount of characters that may be used when uploading a post. This is a critical aspect of Twitter which has only given rise to its popularity. Because posts cannot exceed 280 characters, users do not need to dedicate an extensive amount of time to read and respond, engaging with the community, rather they only need to gain a sense of the topic on hand and summarize a response, increasing efficiency and effectiveness of communication. Twitter also differs from blackboard based on the user base and demographic it attracts. Ge

Social Networking Sites

Today, there are a number of social networking sites that people frequently visit on a daily basis, some sites include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. What all these sites have in common is their ability to rapidly share information across a wide audience, therefore allowing many people be connected, although their methods of doing so look different. Facebook allows users to post "updates" about "what's on your mind?" and allows to share pictures, so there is a lot of text, pictures, and videos on this site. The audience is the user's "friends" that they add. Facebook also allows to like, comment, share the posts of their "friends." The News Feed is where all the user's friend's posts show up. Users can also send messages to other users. Twitter is a site that is considered a microblog. Twitter users can post a tweet of 140 characters or less and the audience are their followers. Users can like, comment, and retweet, fe

Social Networking

The growth in social networking is in large part due to the growth in technology sector as well as the digital information age we are living in. These social networking technologies can be used in ways both harmful and beneficial to society. The most harmful way social networking is used in society is through means of exploitation or invasion of privacy. Many users on these digital platforms form relationships with virtual friends or people they've never met in real life before, which can lead to an increased level of dishonesty and attempt to take advantage of young users with scams and stealing personal data / information. " By 2006, students were posting heaps of personal details onto their Facebook pages, including lists of their favorite TV shows, whether they were dating (and whom), what  music  they had in rotation and the various ad hoc “groups” they had joined (like  “Sex and the City”  Lovers)."
