Blog About Twitter

A Twitter discussion is very unique and houses a range of variations in which communications can be carried out. Twitter can be used for day-to-day social interactions between friends and family members, to nation-wide addresses from one's president to all of the country's citizens. The scale in which Twitter can be used is one unique aspect that differentiates this platform from those such as BlackBoard. Another unique feature of Twitter is the limit on the amount of characters that may be used when uploading a post. This is a critical aspect of Twitter which has only given rise to its popularity. Because posts cannot exceed 280 characters, users do not need to dedicate an extensive amount of time to read and respond, engaging with the community, rather they only need to gain a sense of the topic on hand and summarize a response, increasing efficiency and effectiveness of communication. Twitter also differs from blackboard based on the user base and demographic it attracts. Generally, people from all over the world are able to connect on Twitter with varying ages, nationalities, likes, and preferences. BlackBoard on the other hand attracts students and professors looking to connect with those students through sharing assignments or course documents.
Twitter also differs from in person discussion through limiting the amount of words that need to be said to infer a conclusion and dictate a response, as I mentioned earlier, but also differs in a sense of immediacy and timeliness. Twitter posts, or tweets, are instantaneous once posted and have the capacity to reach thousands upon thousands of eyes at a moments notice (based on the number of contacts you have).
