Social Networking Sites
Today, there are a number of social networking sites that people frequently visit on a daily basis, some sites include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. What all these sites have in common is their ability to rapidly share information across a wide audience, therefore allowing many people be connected, although their methods of doing so look different. Facebook allows users to post "updates" about "what's on your mind?" and allows to share pictures, so there is a lot of text, pictures, and videos on this site. The audience is the user's "friends" that they add. Facebook also allows to like, comment, share the posts of their "friends." The News Feed is where all the user's friend's posts show up. Users can also send messages to other users. Twitter is a site that is considered a microblog. Twitter users can post a tweet of 140 characters or less and the audience are their followers. Users can like, comment, and retweet, features similar to Facebook. Twitter uses "tending topics" that shows the topics mostly being discussed on their site. Instagram focuses on the sharing of pictures and very short videos. Users and post and share pictures taken at that moment or ones that have been previously saved, and allows to caption the pictures. Instagram users have followers that can like, share, and comment on their pictures. Instagram has can explore page where one can see other users posts that they don't follow but are made public and this content depends and what a user currently likes and follows. On Instagram you can see the activity of other users as well. Youtube focuses on the sharing of videos. Users have subscribers who can view, like, share, comment on their videos. The main feature is the number of views, but likes are also important. Youtube is the only one of these sites that allows to dislike a post. Youtube also shows the videos that are trending and makes recommendations about what to watch.
