Social Networking: A Loss of Privacy
Social media has become a major part of people's lives and I intend to touch upon the implications of this. People tend to share a great part of their lives through social media and see it as a way to stay up to date on current topics, update others on themselves, communicate with others, share information, among many others things. There are many positive effects of social media with everything it has allowed us to do, but it has also has a negative impact on society. There is a lot of data that social media companies, such as Facebook, have on these users and what is done with this information may not always protect their privacy. The information that users share of themselves on social media, and the information these companies have from these users can result in a loss of privacy, I will look at this issue from both angles. I will also touch upon how social media is used in the workplace, such as how it is used in the recruiting process and across other areas.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI really like your well though out response and really like the topic you chose. I chose something very similar but decided to focus specifically on Instagram. I know many people often talk about how what you share on social media may affect you when you're applying to jobs but I never understood or learned about the extent of it. I'm really intrigued by the fact that you will be talking about because I would really like to know what role social media plays in the recruiting process.
Hi Gisele,
ReplyDeleteI always view social media sites as not being truly "free" because the consumer pays with their data. They choose to put their face and name online along with their likes/dislikes on sites that advertise themselves as "free" but really aren't because this data is then used to sell products to the consumer. More sites should (and are beginning to) be more transparent about all of this so that a person can think about this before making a choice. Maybe you can research this further if you're interested in writing about it.
