P2P

File sharing is the transfer of files from one computer to another over a network or the internet. Peer to peer file sharing is a form of file sharing that transfers and shares files among people online. Examples of P2P sharing include Gnutella and Bit Torrent. Gnutella allows individuals to locate and send out a request for a file they want to download. There are both positive aspects as well as unintended negative consequences of this. An example of its negative effects is demonstrated in the New York Times article, "Digital Pirates Winning Battle with Studios." It focuses on anti-piracy campaigns and policies on movies and things of that matter, however these attempts do not work and peer to peer file sharing the cause. The article mentioned Warner Brothers creation of an anti piracy campaign to monitor the physical copy of the movie, "The Dark Night." However, the campaign was a failure because illegal copies had still been downloaded millions of times. Peer to peer sharing make it very simple to download and view these illegal copies, however it leads to financial losses for the owners.
