New Next

One type of new media I would introduce that does not currently exist would be an extended application of communication within a school or higher education community, such as Baruch college. I feel as though there is a lack of connection between students who attend the same university and that may lead to negative feelings regarding the overall environment of Baruch as well as the levels of joy and pride experienced by students when on campus. I would suggest creating a new media that allows students to connect with one another through an application unique to every professor and class so that every student in that class is able to ask questions and contribute new material outside of class. An extended application of this new technology would be that students can use this application to connect with former student who have also taken the same class or future student who plan on taking the class. This platform would be strictly educational and for academic purposes, seeing as social applications already exist in the market and may use those sites to socialize outside of the classroom. A hidden benefit for professors would be the comradery among classmates and the more engaged classroom discussions that would arise as a direct result of this new media application.

  1. Hello Gisele,

I agree, students in Baruch tend to be very disconnected with each other. This is especially true for the professors of Baruch. A new application designed for students to communicate with each other or with teachers would create a more efficient and effective learning environment and can even build a sense of community. Since Baruch is a commuter school, people tend to go to class and then go to work or go home. Blackboard is supposed to be a medium for students and professors to connect with each other, but it is not as efficient as it should be. Blackboard is more for assignments and information. If there was an application solely for communicating with others, it will be very beneficial for the school as a whole because people will be connected with each other which can help build lasting relationships that can last a lifetime. In addition, this would be good for professors who do not consistently reply because they would receive a notification and would notice and give a quick reply to keep student's minds at ease. This is a very great idea because people are becoming more disconnected with each other and this would be a way to help connect people through a common ground of being a Baruch student or professor.

  2. Hi Gisele,

I think it will be a great idea to have a platform which is run by CUNY that will allow student communicate and share ideas within their various classes. Currently in my finance class, my professor made everyone to join his GroupMe chat group, this was were he could share information and we could ask questions about topics we don't understand.

  3. Hi Gisele,

I really like your idea of a platform where students within Baruch College can communicate with each other for academic purposes. With a platform like this we as students can help each other out when needed. Students can create their own study sessions and they dont even have to be together to do it. It would a very beneficial form of new media
